Well there we go, Season 2 is over [unless the writer’s strike gets resolved anytime soon].

I hope you enjoyed it, I certainly did!

Anyway, I have been busy beavering away on the new site, hence the lack of updates here. I am hoping to get it opened by March, but you know how unpredictable these things can be. Thank you so much for all your support, messages & comments over the past few months, to know people are still visiting means a lot.

So, for now, the site’s on hiatus so I can complete the new one. Keep checking back, I’ll pop up updates on how close the site is to completion and perhaps a few sneak peeks if you’re lucky!

Before I go, I am still looking for people willing to lend a helping hand, so please contact me if you would like to be invloved in Betty a la Mode v.2 :)

Speak to you soon,

Richard

A New Start

Hello, Hello! Happy new year and I hope you had a lovely Christmas. Mine was awful, soooo boring! Although I cannot complain, I received the Ugly Betty calendar and a horde of ‘Heroes’ merchandise which was much appreciated.

Anyway, I thought I’d let you in on my plan for the new year. As you may have noticed, things have slowed down around here due to my workload and a bit of laziness. I think the laziness is to to the nature of the site. My long posts which encapsulates a few days news take a surprisingly long time to write which is quite off putting after a few hours of university work. So from now on, I think there will be more, shorter posts rather than long ones. This will mean that the site will be updated more frequently and that there will be more to  check back for each day. Hopefully this will get the site back up to it’s old standard and generate a bit of buzz.

Secondly, I think I will be leaving WordPress. If you’re not sure what WordPress is, it’s a blogging site which allows bloggers to host their sites for free, which is what Betty a La Mode is hosted on. I have a lot to thank WordPress for, as it allowed me to open the site, but it is quite restrictive in what I can post or do to alter the appearance of the site. That is why, starting in the next few weeks, I will begin creating the site in proper HTML / CSS and moving to a proper host. Whilst this means the site will be on hiatus, it does mean that the site will be offering much more when it does come back.

Lastly, 2008 will be a new year of  relationships and networking with fellow fansites. Also, there will hopefully be some more additions to the staff to help me maintain the site. Anyone who would like to help with the upcoming changeover, please contact me through the ‘Contact’ button on the left hand side. From Photoshop to Dreamweaver, or just adding content, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Until then, I will be posting about the upcoming episodes, with the next being shown on January 10th.

Here’s to 2008, and a new chapter for Betty a La Mode.

Move Over Beyonce…

Last night, Episode 5 ‘A League of Their Own’ finally made it’s way onto our screens. Season 2 has really lived up to my expectations and this episode was no different. Hilda’s Cemetery club, the whole Betty / Henry situation and Christina’s underwear fitting session all added up to another great hour of Bettyness! On the subject of Christina, looks like the ball has started rolling with her husband storyline. I hope this means we see a bit more of her on our screens, she always seem to have some of the best lines.

Ashley Jensen Interview

Christina, or should I say Ashley Jensen, was Becki & Michael’s special guest this week for the official podcast. I have sorted out the server and have now updated the podcasts section with ALL the podcasts, from the first to the last. If you’ve never listened to them before, you are really missing out! They are absolutely hilarious, and great for the latest gossip. So….

CHECK OUT THE PODCASTS >>>

In the last bit of Ashley related news before I move on, she recently completed a Q&A with Variety magazine, which you can read online here. Here’s a snippet to whet your appetite..

What book do you hope never gets adapted?
“Roget’s Thesauraus,” ‘cos it would be boring.

Last film I saw:
“The Bourne Ultimatum”

Who do you think is the best actor/actress in Hollywood at the moment?
Jeremy Piven and Maggie Gyllenhaall.

I have also updated the Fanmade Video Gallery, [which can be found in the Interact section. Don’t forget to send me links to your favorite videos!] with the AMAZING new video from Ugly Betty video master, Manny! A few months ago he posted the ‘Ugly Betty Mega Mix’ and has now followed it up with ‘Ugly Liar’ featuring Betty & WIlhelmina as Shakira & Beyonce. They are truly great, so be sure to check it out. I am not the only fan though, his original video was enjoyed so much by the Ugly Betty studio, it managed to get him a visit to the set! [Still VERY jealous about that, by the way! Haha!] Manny himself will let you in to ALL the details here, exclusively on Betty a la Mode in the future.

Remember the news that death will be ‘enveloping’ a series regular? Well, after myself and others wondering if this means the actual character or someone related to them, our affiliate TV Guide clears it up for us.

Question: The stench of death is going to envelop someone on Ugly Betty?! Does that mean a main character’s going to die, or is it someone a main character knows? —Caitlin

Ausiello: A series regular will die before the year is out.

Oh. My. Goodness! Who do you think it’ll be? My bets are on Bradford. His story arc has kinda ended and we rarely see him anyway. I think there would be an outrage if Marc got hit by a bus, or Amanda fell off a cliff anyway! We’ll see what happens….

Eric Mabius Nature of the Beast

Did you catch Eric starring in ABC’s ‘Nature of the Beast’ last weekend? Sadly I didn’t [due to living in the UK!], so was it any good? However good it was, it meant Eric got an interview with TVGuide.com which is always good to hear! As well as the movie, he speaks quite a lot about Ugly Betty, which you can read here >>> See an excerpt below…

TVGuide.com: Just like Daniel Meade. Sometimes he’s helping Betty or reconciling family relationships, then sometimes he’s… a cad.
Mabius: Which is why I have such a good time playing him. He’s doing his best but he’s falling short in a lot of respects. And I feel like I have a dream job to that extent because I’m not going to be stuck playing a cop looking at gruesome murder scenes for X number of years. I get to do broad comedy, drama, romance and slapstick…. It’s just amazing, it really is.

TVGuide.com: Lately it seems Daniel has turned over a new leaf of responsibility. Is that going to continue?
Mabius: What the writers always achieve is an unrealistic world to a great extent, but the interactions — the people — aren’t. As in life, we take one step forward and 10 steps back. I mean, I think he’s going to grow up a lot but he’s not going to grow up too much.

America has recently been quoted talking about her, and other’s, ‘curvy’ fugures.

America Ferrera, the star of the TV series “Ugly Betty”, says she is curvy but doesn’t like the term being used to describe women in Hollywood.

“There’s just way too much attention placed on the way we look. I think it’s hilarious when people call Jessica Alba or Eva Longoria curvy. Come on – they’re not curvy. I’m curvy,” she was quoted as saying by ananova.com.

She added: “What is normal now? Is it normal to be size zero? Starving yourself is not beautiful. I’ve been really lucky. Playing Betty has prepared me to be exactly who I am and not to change. If I’ve gained a pound or lost a pound, or have food in my teeth, it all works for the show.”

I totally agree, Eva is a beautiful woman, but definitely not curvy. Nice to hear ‘Betty’ has given her such a good outlook on her looks :)

Promo pictures for Episode 9, ‘Giving Up The Ghost’ have been released, and by the looks of things, it’ll be one of the Christmas episodes. ‘Lose The Boss’ was one of my favourite episodes of the first season so hopefully this will be just as good.

I recently bought the UK gossip magazine Heat for the interview with Mark Indelicato, and have uploaded the scans for you to enjoy. These can be found in Betty a La Mode’s new gallery which was created in collaboration with our sister site, Mode-Magazine.net. As always, please respect the fact that I purchased the magazine and then spent literally hours scanning and editing the images, and not pass them off as your own! Click the image below to access the full set. Enjoy…

Lastly, [Thankfully! This post has taken me hours!] here’s a lovely picture of Becki from the Hollywood Fashion Show. Becki always looks lovely at these kind of events and this is no exception. Click the image to access the full gallery.

Sexy! No No No

I am so sorry for the delay in this post. This whole weekend has been a pretty crazy time, so I didn’t have a chance to post here earlier. I did manage to finally sort out the ‘Episodes’ section though, with the implementation of a new display and colour scheme.

The problem with leaving such a large gap between posts means the next one is jam packed full of information! Saying that, I better get on with it…

Kim Cattrall

Ugly Betty almost had a ‘Sexy’ guest star join the cast recently, but sadly Kim Cattrall said she didn’t feel ‘it was really her’

The 51-year-old has only made fleeting appearances on the small screen since Sex And The City ended in 2004, but she is still determined to be choosy about what roles she takes on.

Cattrall says, “I turned down Ugly Betty. It’s a fun show, but I don’t regret it. I didn’t really think it was me.”

I’m disappointed about that, I think Kim would have been great on the show. We can’t complain though, we have a load of other guest stars to look forward to instead!

Another week passed, another episode. Amazing, as always, so relive it with this video summary below:

Promo pics for Posh’s episode, ‘A Nice Day For A Posh Wedding’ have been released as well as the pictures for Episode 6, ‘Something Wicked This Way Comes’. First up, Episode 6:

Betty and Henry continue their illicit romance and plan a secret date to “Wicked,” but things don’t go as planned when Daniel, thinking she’s dating Gio (Freddy Rodriguez), gifts her with tickets for the two of them instead – tickets which Gio refuses to give up. Meanwhile, Daniel woos an important advertiser (guest star Marlo Thomas), a lady with a penchant for younger men

And now, here’s the promo pictures for Episode 7, ‘A Nice Day For A Posh Wedding’

As Wilhelmina prepares for her big day, all is not quiet on the Mode front when she realizes her fabulous maid of honor, Victoria Beckham (guest starring as herself), is stealing her thunder. Meanwhile, Betty is wracked with guilt about her secret pact with Wilhelmina and about not telling Daniel that his future step-mom is dallying with her bodyguard (guest star Rick Fox). At the Suarez house, Ignacio prepares for his big day – becoming a U.S. citizen – but when Betty moves in with new love Henry, it puts a major strain on father/daughter relations

I seriously cannot wait! This season is going to be great, hehe!

Now for a few interviews with the cast, the first is with Christopher Gorham, who we all know as ‘Henry’. In his talk with the New York Post her reveals a bit about the upcoming musical episode:

Q: Are you ready for “Ugly Betty’s” Valentine’s Day musical episode?

A: I sang a ton in high school, I was in all the singing groups, so it’s going to be fine. This is the perfect cast to do it with – I think everyone sings except for Eric Mabius [Mode editor Daniel Meade]. At least right now, there’s going to be a huge dance number at the end too.

Ah ha! I don’t know about you, but I had no idea it was Valentine’s Day themed. That also tells us that the episode will not be until next year which is a shame, February is so far away! I hope Eric manages to squeeze out a few notes, as long as he doesn’t sound like how Gio did on Thursday’s episode, haha! Read the full interview here >>>

Secondly, Michael got grilled by Tv Guide about his job & love life

TV Guide: What do you and your character, Marc St. James, have in common?

Michael Urie: I love my job and he loves his job. But I’m not fashionable or mean. Marc and Amanda are pretty much Michael and Becki [Newton] — we’re goofy like that.

Check out the full interview here >>>

Speaking of TVGuide.com, I am proud to announce that Betty a la Mode is now officially linked with the site [thanks to the lovely Rachelle :)], with a time counter counting down until the next episode, video of Behind the Scenes of Ugly Betty and episode recaps, TvGuide.com is the perfect place to catch up with your Bettyness [after Betty a la Mode, of course!]

A new podcast has been released, this time featuring Eric Mabius. This is officially my favourite podcast, their British accents are hilarious [you’ll see what I mean!]. My hosting server is being a bit of a pain at the moment, so check it out on iTunes in the meantime. I’ll aim to be uploading it here very soon.

That was a mother of a post! next time, I promoise not to leave it so long :) Enjoy!

I can’t wait for the next episode, now all the story lines have all started up again from the premiere they can really get into the swing of things. Marc in the above clip is hilarious!

Now for a bit of news, the press release for the fourth episode, ‘Grim And Bear It’ has been released. This episode will be starring Victor Garber as Professor Barrett

Betty takes steps toward becoming a writer and invests in a class that proves to be so challenging, she tosses her own writing assignment and instead submits a Mode story written by a woman who survived a bear attack — with disastrous results. Meanwhile Alexis, still suffering from amnesia, starts back at work with no memory of how to act like a girl; Daniel gets an ultimatum from their top advertiser (guest star James Van Der Beek) — fire his transsexual sister — and Amanda, on the hunt to find her dad’s identity, learns a deep dark secret about Wilhelmina’s past

I am really excited. We have lots of things to look forward to!

1. For the other British fans out there, the DVD box set finally gets a release over here on Monday. Don’t forget though, buy it from HMV if possible, as they offer a exclusive version with a bonus disc for exactly the same price. My friend and I are going down to pick it up together and then have an Ugly Betty day!

The DVD release promo

2. The official calendar gets it’s release on October 1st [if the date on Amzon is correct!]. In the US though, it says it’s already been released?! Has anyone bought it yet? For those who haven’t seen what it looks like, check out these pictures.

I think it looks great! I wonder which character will be on my birthday month… [Prays for Amanda!]

3. Now, saving the best for last [Haha! That pun will never get old!], the premiere of season 2 is next week! For you Americans it’s September 27th, and in England, October 5th. Not bad at all really, considering the gap for Season One was four months!

I should also be getting that baseball I won with the cast’s signatures on it this week, so expect some pictures very soon!

Back To Normal

Hey! I have my computer set up and connected in my university room and everything should now be back to normal. Things are a bit weird so far, but I’m sure I’ll settle in soon :)

Anyway, did you enjoy the Emmy’s? I didn’t get to view them, or even view the result online till the day after, and I have to say I was shocked! First of all, HUGE congratulations to America for winning ‘Best Comedy Actress’ but I was disappointed that Ugly Betty only won 2 of the 11 awards it was nominated for. Oh well, 2 is better than nothing. Everyone looked great at the awards, and I particularly liked Vanessa’s feathery dress, hehe!

[America winning the Emmy for ‘Best Comedy Actress’, Thank to Ugly-Is-In for the clip!]

If you didn’t already know, some of the cast have been helping spread the word of GLAAD’s ‘Be an Ally and a Friend’ initiative. Check out the public service announcement they appear in here and then check out the GLAAD site. I think it’s a great initiative and with Ugly Betty being a gay friendly show, they are the perfect people to raise awareness.

I was checking out the brilliant Ugly Betty News and noticed an article on a new range of Ugly Betty style fashion. As Tom, webmaster of the site, says, I’m not sure whether it is real or just a fake promo site for the show. The fact that it’s not in English doesn’t help either! It’s cool to have a look around though, so give the banner below a click

Ugly Betty Fashion

Did you hear about the ‘High School Musical’ scandal? Vanessa Hudgens, who plays Gabriella in the films, had some private photos of herself leaked to the press which caused quite a bit of controversy amongst fans and their parents. At the Emmy’s on Sunday, our very own Vanessa was asked what advice she would pass on after experiencing a similar situation herself.

Posing for nude photos may have cost Vanessa Williams her Miss America crown in 1984, but the Ugly Betty star says Vanessa Hudgens will survive her own racy photos scandal.

“She’s got talent and she’s professional, and those are the things that’ll help her survive in life,” Williams, 44, said at the ET/PEOPLE Emmy party on Sunday. “You know, welcome to the lesson of hard knocks. She got her first big one right now.”

More than two decades ago, Williams was pressured to give up her crown and at least $2 million worth of contracts after the images appeared in Penthouse, but she was successful in her fight back to the top. Appearing on the cover of PEOPLE shortly after the scandal broke, Williams said, “I am not a lesbian and I am not a slut, and somehow I am going to make people believe me.”

The fallout after the nude pic “taken privately” of Hudgens, 18, surfaced on several Web sites on Sept. 6 was minimal. The young star apologized to fans and has kept a low profile the past few weeks, but Disney stands behind the actress and she has not lost any of her endorsement deals.

“I met her and she’s a very sweet talented girl and I’ve seen High School Musical 2 a zillion times because of my kids … and she’ll be fine,” Williams said.

I’m sure by the time High School 3 comes out, it’ll all be forgotten!

To finish, here’s the descriptions of the first two episodes of Season 2. One week tomorrow [YAY!]

Episode 1 : ‘How Betty Got Her Grieve Back’

Betty’s life is in chaos after a series of very unfortunate events, but despite all that’s happened, she’s still in denial about one thing how much Henry’s departure has affected her. Meanwhile, Amanda turns to junk food and to Marc in dealing with the revelation that Fey Sommers was her real mother, and Wilhelmina schemes to turn the tragic Meade family events to her advantage, on the season premiere of ABC’s award winning Ugly Betty.

Episode 2 : ‘Family Affair’

Betty doesn’t know what to do when she finds out Wilhelmina’s hunky new bodyguard (guest star Rick Fox as Dwayne) is taking the job to a whole new level. And then there’s her own love life – now that Henry’s back, can they just be friends? Meanwhile, Bradford uses Alexis’ amnesia to re-write family history, Hilda comes to terms with recent events, and Amanda gets a surprising inheritance from Fey Sommers
